Warbrides Mailing list
Warbrides is a free mailing list provided by Rootsweb, and owned by Debbie Beavis.
For anyone who has never belonged to a mailing list before, this is a brief description of how they work. You subscribe either in List Mode, which means you get all the messages singly just like any other email, or you subscribe in Digest Mode, so you get one email that includes attachments each containing a single message.
Subscribers 'post' a message to the list address, and a copy of that message is sent to every subscriber. (If you are the one who posts the message, you will also receive a copy of your own message because that is how it works.) Remember that some of the emails will be answers to other people's questions and not to yours.
Warbrides list is set up so that if you 'reply' to a message, it automatically is sent to the list so everyone sees it. If you DON'T want that to happen, when you hit 'reply' you will need to delete the Warbrides name from the address and enter the name of the person you want to read the email. It's very simple.
You will not get a virus through belonging to Warbrides, or from any other Rootsweb mailing list. Rootsweb's servers strip out any offending attachments or scripts, so you and your computer will be perfectly safe. Likewise, the attachments you receive from Warbrides if you are subscribed in Digest Mode are perfectly safe.
